The prize day ceremony is an occasion of great joy not only to the teachers and the students also to the guardians and the general public. The school wears a festive look. On this occasion prizes are given to the students for their good results and proficiency in different subjects. Some students get prizes for their attendance and some for their conduct. Again some students who show special skill in various games and sports and in athletic activities receive prizes. 

Almost every college holds a prize day to distribute prizes among the students. The last prize day of our college was held on 2nd April last year in the college compound. We decorated the college building very tastefully. Green leaves, flags and festoons were freely used to enhance the beauty of the school. A big pandal was erected to hold the function. There were two tables neatly decorated on which the prizes and medals were arranged in proper order. On one side was a platform nicely carpeted from where the speeches were delivered. There was also a victory stand from where the recipients received their prizes and medals. The president's chair and table were placed in the middle with flower pots and bouquets of roses. The function began just at 10 a. m. The invited guests began to come in. The volunteers received them cordially. 

The D.C. was in the chair. He arrived at the gate just a few minutes before the ceremony was due to commence. The students offered him the guard of honour. The Principal, some teachers and some distinguished persons gave him a rousing ovation and conducted him to the seat of honour. 

The formal ceremony now began with the recitation from the Holy Quran. Then the Principal read out his report which showed all round improvement of the school. Then the main ceremony began. The Principal called each recipient by name and the president gave away the prizes. Finally the president rose to speak. He delivered his speech. He congratulated the institution, the teachers and the students. He gave the students valuable advice. 

The function then came to a close with the customary vote of thanks. The memory of the day is still fresh in my mind.

প্রায় প্রতিটি কলেজে শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে পুরস্কার বিতরণের জন্য একটি পুরস্কার দিবস পালন করা হয়। আমাদের কলেজের শেষ পুরস্কার দিবস গত বছরের ২রা এপ্রিল কলেজ প্রাঙ্গণে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। আমরা কলেজ ভবনটি খুব রুচিশীলভাবে সাজিয়েছি। বিদ্যালয়ের সৌন্দর্য বর্ধনে অবাধে সবুজ পাতা, পতাকা ও ফেস্টুন ব্যবহার করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানের জন্য একটি বড় প্যান্ডেল তৈরি করা হয়েছিল। সুন্দরভাবে সাজানো দুটি টেবিল ছিল যার উপরে পুরস্কার ও পদকগুলো যথাযথভাবে সাজানো ছিল। একপাশে একটি প্ল্যাটফর্ম ছিল সুন্দরভাবে কার্পেট করা যেখান থেকে বক্তৃতা দেওয়া হত। এছাড়াও একটি বিজয় স্ট্যান্ড ছিল যেখান থেকে প্রাপকরা তাদের পুরস্কার এবং পদক গ্রহণ করে। রাষ্ট্রপতির চেয়ার ও টেবিলের মাঝখানে ফুলের পাত্র ও গোলাপের তোড়া রাখা ছিল। অনুষ্ঠানটি শুরু হয়েছিল ঠিক 10টায়। মি আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিরা আসতে শুরু করেন। স্বেচ্ছাসেবকরা তাদের আন্তরিকভাবে গ্রহণ করেন।

চেয়ারে ছিলেন ডিসি। অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হওয়ার মাত্র কয়েক মিনিট আগে তিনি গেটে এসে পৌঁছান। শিক্ষার্থীরা তাকে গার্ড অব অনার প্রদান করেন। অধ্যক্ষ, কয়েকজন শিক্ষক এবং কয়েকজন বিশিষ্ট ব্যক্তি তাকে উচ্ছ্বসিত প্রশংসা করেন এবং সম্মানের আসনে অধিষ্ঠিত করেন।

পবিত্র কোরআন তেলাওয়াতের মধ্য দিয়ে আনুষ্ঠানিকতা শুরু হয়। এরপর প্রিন্সিপাল তার রিপোর্ট পড়ে শোনান যা স্কুলের সার্বিক উন্নতি দেখায়। এরপর শুরু হয় মূল অনুষ্ঠান। অধ্যক্ষ প্রত্যেক প্রাপককে নাম ধরে ডাকলেন এবং সভাপতি পুরস্কার তুলে দিলেন। অবশেষে রাষ্ট্রপতি বক্তব্য দিতে উঠেন। তিনি তার বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন। তিনি প্রতিষ্ঠান, শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের অভিনন্দন জানান। তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের মূল্যবান পরামর্শ দেন।

এরপর ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপনের মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠানের সমাপ্তি ঘটে। সেদিনের স্মৃতি এখনো আমার মনে তাজা।
