My favourite author is Kazi Nazrul Islam. He is the national poet of Bangladesh. He is well known as the Rebel poet in Bengali literature. He was born at Churulia, in Asansol. 

His father's name was Kazi Fakir Ahmad and his mother's name was Zaheda Khatun. His parents lost four children before his birth. So, they gave him the nick name "Dhuku Mia". 

In his early life Nazrul lost his mother. For this he had struggled hard against poverty. In his boyhood he was yery precocious and naughty. He was admitted to a local Primary School. But he did not obey the hard and fast rule of the school. He troubled the villagers with his boyish wicked deeds. The villagers called him "Khepa". After passing the Primary Examination he devoted himself to religion. He became a teacher in the village Maktab. There he taught the village children the holy Quran. He also became a muazzin. At this time he became well acquainted with Islamic lore which influenced his later literary works to a great extent. He also entertained the village people through theatrical party known as "Letto" and earned name and fame. 

At twelve he fled away from home and took job of a baker boy and for that he got taka 5 per month. At this time he drew the attention Of a Muslim sub-inspector of police. He took Nazrul to his own village home and got him admitted into a high school. The first World War broke out. He joined the War and became a Havilder. 

He continued his writings there. He wrote several poems and prose pieces which made him famous. The Regiment was banned. He returned to Calcutta. At this time he edited a magazine named "Dhumketu" in which he published all his revolutionary writings. He was sent to jail for one year for writing the poem "Agamani". His famous creations are Agni Bina, Bandhan Hara, Rikter Bedan, Bisher Bans', pralay-Shika etc. 

Nazrul's writings were full of hope, energy, aspiration and result. His writings awakened the sleeping people of this subcontinent. It was Nazrul through whom the people began to hope forand better future. He made them conscious of their rights. He helped them to fight for independence  break the bondage of slavery and fetters of subjugation. He has established himself in our heart and in the annals of Bengali Literature.

তাঁর পিতার নাম কাজী ফকির আহমদ এবং মাতার নাম জাহেদা খাতুন। জন্মের আগেই তার বাবা-মা চার সন্তানকে হারিয়েছেন। তাই, তারা তাকে "ধুকু মিয়া" ডাক নাম দেয়।

প্রথম জীবনে নজরুল তার মাকে হারান। এ জন্য তিনি দারিদ্র্যের বিরুদ্ধে কঠোর সংগ্রাম করেছেন। শৈশবকালে তিনি ছিলেন অত্যন্ত অপ্রিয় এবং দুষ্টু। তাকে স্থানীয় একটি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তি করানো হয়। কিন্তু তিনি স্কুলের কঠিন ও দ্রুত নিয়ম মানেননি। তিনি তার ছেলেসুলভ দুষ্ট কাজ দিয়ে গ্রামবাসীদের বিরক্ত করেছিলেন। গ্রামবাসী তাকে ডাকত ‘খেপা’। প্রাথমিক পরীক্ষায় উত্তীর্ণ হয়ে তিনি ধর্মে আত্মনিয়োগ করেন। গ্রামের মক্তবে শিক্ষক হন। সেখানে তিনি গ্রামের শিশুদের পবিত্র কোরআন শিক্ষা দেন। তিনি মুয়াজ্জিনও হয়েছিলেন। এই সময়ে তিনি ইসলামী বিদ্যার সাথে ভালভাবে পরিচিত হন যা তার পরবর্তী সাহিত্যকর্মগুলিকে ব্যাপকভাবে প্রভাবিত করেছিল। এছাড়াও তিনি "লেট্টো" নামে পরিচিত নাট্যদলের মাধ্যমে গ্রামের মানুষকে বিনোদন দিয়েছিলেন এবং নাম ও খ্যাতি অর্জন করেছিলেন।

বারোটায় সে বাড়ি থেকে পালিয়ে বেকার ছেলের চাকরি নেয় এবং সে জন্য মাসে ৫ টাকা পায়। এ সময় তিনি একজন মুসলিম সাব-ইন্সপেক্টর অব পুলিশের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করেন। তিনি নজরুলকে তার গ্রামের বাড়িতে নিয়ে যান এবং একটি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়ে ভর্তি করিয়ে দেন। প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধ শুরু হয়। তিনি যুদ্ধে যোগ দেন এবং হাবিলদার হন।

সেখানে তিনি তার লেখালেখি চালিয়ে যান। তিনি বেশ কিছু কবিতা এবং গদ্য রচনা করেন যা তাকে বিখ্যাত করে তোলে। রেজিমেন্ট নিষিদ্ধ ছিল। তিনি কলকাতায় ফিরে আসেন। এই সময়ে তিনি "ধূমকেতু" নামে একটি পত্রিকা সম্পাদনা করেন যাতে তিনি তার সমস্ত বিপ্লবী লেখা প্রকাশ করেন। ‘আগমণি’ কবিতা লেখার অপরাধে তাকে এক বছরের জন্য কারাগারে পাঠানো হয়। অগ্নি বিনা, বাঁধন হারা, রিক্তার বেদন, বিষের বন, প্রলয়-শিকা প্রভৃতি তাঁর বিখ্যাত সৃষ্টি।

নজরুলের লেখায় ভরপুর ছিল আশা, শক্তি, আকাঙ্খা ও ফলাফল। তার লেখা এ উপমহাদেশের ঘুমন্ত মানুষকে জাগিয়েছে। নজরুলের মাধ্যমেই মানুষ আশা করতে শুরু করেছিল সুন্দর ভবিষ্যতের। তিনি তাদের অধিকার সম্পর্কে সচেতন করেছেন। দাসত্বের শৃঙ্খল ও পরাধীনতার শৃঙ্খল ভেঙ্গে স্বাধীনতার লড়াইয়ে তিনি তাদের সাহায্য করেছিলেন। তিনি আমাদের হৃদয়ে এবং বাংলা সাহিত্যের ইতিহাসে নিজেকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছেন।
